Les Échiquiers du Roi are delighted to present the Antique Chess Set, a model inspired by the elegance of early-20th-century chess sets found in London and Vienna.

This set pays tribute to a certain idea of classical refinement: slender silhouettes, measured volumes and a sense of balance that feels both historical and contemporary. The pieces, inspired by period designs, evoke the era of private clubs and great chess cafés—where the game was as much a social art as a discipline of the mind.

The pieces are hand-carved from natural boxwood and Sheesham, with a matt finish that preserves the wood’s natural texture. Weighted and felted, they offer a comfortable, stable glide and a pleasing, quiet contact with the board.

The board, handcrafted in Europe, combines rosewood and sycamore in crisp marquetry. Its lacquered finish enhances the depth of the woods and highlights the contrast between the squares and the border. The set thus becomes an object to live with: elegant, readable and made to last.
